The governor of Ruyigi province has addressed the population of her province during a public broadcast

RUYIGI, November 21st (ABP) – The governor of Ruyigi province (East of the country), Emerencienne Tabu, called on the population of that province and farmers, on Monday, November 19, 2024, during a public broadcast, to deal with the growing of varied crops that can provide a balanced and healthy diet.

The appeal was made after noting that the population of the province produced fairly sufficient harvests during the summer period, but that cases of malnutrition are occurring.

During the radio programme, Mrs. Tabu said that this province is experiencing cases of malnutrition in certain localities and gave the example of the Butezi district especially in Mubira County.

The state of affairs is evident as the population engages daily in field work. She deplored that some people do not know how to vary their diet. Others produce but dump their production on the markets and find themselves unable to reach the next growing season.

On the side of the health province, health promotion technicians confirmed that there are cases of severe malnutrition, others confirm that there is acute malnutrition and affirm that awareness-raising is underway so that the situation can change, as indicated by Damas Barikeka of the provincial health directorate.

He explained that a good diet does not consist of consuming meat for each meal, but rather of varying the diet in order to consume all the food groups necessary for the body, namely energy foods, those for the growth of the body and those that protect health.

The two personalities called on the population to team up in cooperative and associative movements to produce better and thus better fight against malnutrition.

Note that during this broadcast, Governor Tabu was accompanied by members of the provincial platform for food security and nutrition.
