RUYIGI November 15th (ABP) – The Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Domine Banyankimbona, made a working visit to the province of Ruyigi, to provide answers to the various judgments already handed down by the different courts and to enquire about the grievances of the population.
The Minister of Justice took the opportunity to ask the people of Ruyigi to avoid any kind of injustice and to avoid spending the bulk of their time on useless lawsuits, instead focusing on development work that could be of greater interest to them. The raid was attended by representatives of all the courts operating in Ruyigi province, the public prosecutor’s office, the judicial police, as well as the directors of Ruyigi prison and the Ruyigi juvenile reformatory.
According to Mathias Sindoraniwe, the governor’s advisor in charge of judicial affairs, the province is enjoying peace and tranquility, but certain individuals are impersonating members of the judiciary, which is hampering the smooth running and tarnishing the image of the judicial system in general. He therefore asked the Minister to call to order all those who disregard the law.
In her speech, Minister Domine Banyankimbona stressed the fact that some people have adopted the habit of spending their time dawdling in the courts, instead of getting on with the work that could help them economically. She pointed out that most lawsuits are land-related, and that people can spend decades squabbling over a few centimeters that end up bringing nothing to the disputing parties.
She also pointed out that another reality is that certain ill-intentioned individuals spend their time fomenting and concocting plans to seize other people’s land and material assets, based on their acquaintances and affinities with certain magistrates and public prosecutors.
To the latter she warned that any professional in that field found guilty would be punished in an exemplary fashion. She also called on everyone to demonstrate positive change, each in his or her own responsibility.
