BUBANZA, February 27th (ABP) – Sylvestre Ndayishimiye, Director of the Provincial Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (BPEAE) in Bubanza province, is delighted with the state of the fields, which, according to him, augurs a good harvest, according to local sources.

Contacted by ABP, he said that maize had been grown on 5,145 hectares and that production was expected to reach 1,464 tonnes.

Rice production is expected to reach 3,067 tonnes from 6,610 hectares. Beans were grown on 1665 hectares, with expected production of 1998 tonnes. Potatoes were grown on 54 hectares and production is forecast at 691.2 tonnes.

Market garden crops were grown on 1166 hectares, with forecast production of 13992 tonnes.

Compared to the maize sold to the National Food Security Stock Management Agency (ANAGESSA) in 2024, i.e. 807.938 tonnes, Mr Ndayishimiye remains optimistic that the harvest will double compared to the maize production expected for that A 2025 season.

Mr. Ndayishimiye is calling on the province’s farmers to manage the harvest properly, while avoiding selling it on the hoof.

Most of the seed has been allocated by the government: 103.8 tonnes of maize, 132.2 tonnes of rice, 133.2 tonnes of beans and 108 tonnes of potatoes.
