NGOZI, May 26 (ABP) – The harvest of the previous year’s season A in Marangara commune, Ngozi province, was good. The administrator of this commune, Goreth Nshimirimana, reported that the cultivators achieved a good maize harvest, with more than 400 tons collected from various areas purchased by ANAGESSA. Regarding rice cultivation, although the local authority did not provide exact figures, she stated that Marangara exports rice to neighboring communes.
According to her, the increase in production happened thanks to the population’s adoption of organo-mineral fertilizers, particularly those produced by the FOMI factory and those provided by the NGO Tubura.
Additionally, the people of Marangara receive agricultural training through cooperatives they belong to, which encourages them to apply modern farming techniques. Nshimirimana also emphasized that the commune is committed to eradicating illicit trade of crops towards the neighboring country, Rwanda.
Even theft in the fields, which was frequent, has decreased thanks to the identification of suspects supported by moralization sessions on civic responsibility. Citizens have also been trained to cultivate cassava using modern methods, to the point that a single plant can produce up to 50 kg. They have positively responded to calls for pooling cultivable land, which also contributes to increased production.
Although this commune borders Rwanda, awareness campaigns have reduced illegal exports. For Marangara’s administrator, the people must understand that anyone who illegally exports production to another country indirectly supports Burundi’s enemies.
Regarding cooperatives, she expressed concern that many have not yet repaid loans granted by the state. However, some are well organized, having already acquired land for farming and practicing cattle-raising.
