KAYANZA, September 12th (ABP) – At a time when Mpox continues to spread in Kayanza province (north) where the number of cases tested positive has increased from 25 at the end of last August to 30 currently, the governor of Kayanza, Mr. Rémy Cishahayo, recommends that school principals make washing devices and soaps available just before the start of the school year scheduled for September 16. He said that on Friday, September 2024, in a meeting to prepare for the beginning of the school year, organized for all stakeholders in the field of education in Kayanza province.
In his presentation on the state of play of the spread of monkeypox (Mpox) in Kayanza province, the chief medical officer of the health district of Musema, Dr. Emmanuel Ndayisaba, said that this epidemic is raging in two of the three health districts of Kayanza province. He said that at the end of August, that province had 25 cases tested positive for that disease and that they are at 30 today. Against the backdrop of that situation, the governor of Kayanza, Mr. Cishahayo, urged school principals to make washing devices and soaps available just before the beginning of the school year to allow students to wash their hands before entering in the classrooms. He also called on them to serve as models, both at school and at home, especially in the implementation of barrier measures against the said epidemic.
