KAYANZA, March 7th (ABP) – The Speaker of the National Assembly, Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe, has asked Burundians to remain calm and not to listen to rumours circulating on social networks and to people acting in bad faith. The latter make remarks that tend towards ethnicization and hatred, and that are aimed at their hidden sectarian interests. He delivered that message on Saturday 1 March 2025, when he joined the population of the Matongo commune in Kayanza province (north) in the development work of moving stones towards the construction site of the multi-storey building that will house various departments of the enlarged Matongo commune, as witnessed on site.

The governor of Kayanza, Rémy Cishahayo, urged the communal administrators of Gatara, Butaganzwa and Matongo to work in synergy in the development of flagship projects for the extended commune of Matongo and to mobilise contributions so that the construction work on the commune’s office could be completed on schedule.

In his speech, Ndabirabe said that he had mobilised a contribution of 100 million BIF, which will enable the ground floor of the building to be completed. He took the opportunity to invite Burundians to remain calm and avoid being confused by the rumours that are spreading on social networks and any divisionist comments, because, he pointed out, there are no longer any ethnic issues in Burundi. “Those who go to any lengths to confuse you have no other aim than to achieve their hidden sectarian interests”, he insisted.

Ndabirabe also recommended that Burundians join insurance companies, in order to benefit from compensation in the event of accidents or climate change.

On the same occasion, members of the Bene Samuragwa WhatsApp group donated 315 bags of cement to the Matongo commune and 2,000,000 BIF to the Maison Cana orphanage in Rukago in the Gahombo commune.
