GITEGA, January 22nd (ABP) – The First Lady of Burundi and Legal Representative of the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, proceeded, last Friday at the headquarters of the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation, to the handing of assistance to young girls supported by the programme called “Educate Linda” implemented by the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation, in collaboration with the Merck Foundation, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The students benefiting from the assistance were chosen from all the provinces of the country.

On that occasion, Mrs. Ndayishimiye called on the beneficiaries of the project to redouble their efforts in class, in order to improve success. She also called on them to be characterized by behavior worthy of a respectful girl, and to love school because, according to her, the two foundations spend too much on them.

The First Lady said that this programme was established with the aim of supporting girl students from vulnerable families in their school curriculum.

She pointed out that the two foundations were disappointed with the girls benefiting from the project, who became pregnant while they were at school, adding that this programme will continue to support those who will demonstrate dignified behavior and who will improve success in class.

She said that she will propose to her colleagues that each girl beneficiary of the project, who becomes pregnant, return all the money received, in order to help other poor girls who want to study.

For her part, student Queen Darlene Uwasenze, who represented the beneficiaries, warmly thanked the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation and the Merck Foundation which helps them in their school curriculum. She particularly thanked the Burundian First Lady who continues to assist girl students from vulnerable families. She noted that this gives them the courage to continue their studies.

On the side of the parents of children benefiting from the “Educate Linda” programme, Mr. Charles Nibaruta also expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for the support she provides to vulnerable families in terms of the schooling of their daughters. He said that this gesture shows them that they are supported despite their vulnerability. He encouraged the First Lady to continue on this path, for all girls in the country to be schooled.
