GITEGA, July 7th (ABP) – The Director of the Tanga Scientific Documentation Center based in Gitega, Mr. Landry Duhaye, calls on Burundians to develop a culture of writing and scientific research, taking into account that well-conducted research informs national development.
In an interview with the Burundi News Agency (ABP), he noted that the Tanga Scientific Documentation Center supports Burundian researchers in publishing their work without paying large sums to international publishers.
According to him, the center also allows Burundian researchers to access information published in international centers to enrich their research. He noted that searches conducted on free platforms like Google yield questionable information, given that anyone can publish anything on them, which can lead to errors or unreliable research. “Information on the internet can confuse researchers because it is sometimes reissued or outdated,” said Mr. Duhaye, director of the Scientific Documentation Center.
He urged researchers not to keep their knowledge to themselves, but rather to share it in order to contribute to the country’s development. He also encouraged collaboration, the sharing of ideas, and the use of reliable sources in research.
He specified that each publication at the Tanga Center first undergoes review by Burundian experts to ensure its credibility. For him, research must become a culture that informs national development. It is for this reason, according to him, that the Tanga Center connects universities, international publishing houses, and independent researchers.
Based on this, he revealed that this center, which has been active for two years, already works with more than 800 people, mostly Master’s students and professors from seven Burundian universities. This center provides users with access to 33,000 books and 3,000 articles published monthly, for a subscription costing less than 100,000 BIF.
