BEIJING, July 30 (AMSP/CGTN) – – A high-level US business delegation has visited the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to hold talks with Chairman Ren Hongbin. The delegation includes senior executives from companies such as FedEx, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Otis Worldwide, and Apple. Both sides expressed hope that business cooperation could help inject new momentum into China-US economic ties. CGTN’s Cao Chufeng has more.
On Tuesday, Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, or CCPIT, met with the US business delegation. The group includes senior executives from around 10 major American companies with deep ties to the Chinese market. Many have visited China repeatedly this year—but this visit stands out, as it comes amid the third round of China-US trade talks in Stockholm.
“I think you are visiting China at a very critical time. I hope and believe your visit at this time will definitely promote strengthening cooperation, economic and trade,” Chairman Ren Hongbin expresses his hope.
The visit is organized by the US-China Business Council. It marks the most high-profile American business delegation to visit China since trade tensions flared up again in April. The group is led by FedEx CEO Rajesh Subramaniam, who also serves as the Council’s board chair.
“I want to take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation for CCPIT’s involvement and support arranging this board trip, and facilitating a special meeting with our state leaders here. We know that your efforts have significantly contributed to the success of our engagements in China over the many years here,” says Rajesh Subramaniam, Chief Executive Officer of FedEx.
The visit takes place as both countries navigate a complex geopolitical and economic landscape. For China, expanding high-level dialogue and maintaining stable trade relations with the US remain important in its broader push for high-quality opening-up.
The presence of this group of US business leaders in China highlights the American business community’s desire for a stable and mutually beneficial economic relationship between the two countries.
And on the same day, China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Lecheng, also met with the visiting US delegation. Li said the ministry remains committed to creating a fair, open, and stable business environment for foreign firms. Rajesh Subramaniam, board chair of the US-China Business Council, welcomed those efforts and said the Council remains committed to promoting healthy and stable US-China economic ties.
