GITEGA/BUGENDANA/GISHUBI/MWARO/NYABIHANGA/MURAMVYA/KIGANDA, July 28 (ABP) – The members of the communal councils of the Gitega, Bugendana, Gishubi, Mwaro, Nyabihanga, Muramvya, and Kiganda communes in Gitega province (the political capital and center of Burundi), elected on June 5, 2025, met on Thursday, July 24, 2025, to appoint the new communal administrators and members of the communal offices of these communes.
In Gitega commune, the position of communal administrator went to Dr. Jacques Nduwimana who was the administrator of the former Gitega commune. He was elected with 100%, that is, 25/25 votes from the communal councilors.
The communal office of Gitega is composed of Mr. Thaddée Nyandwi president; the deputy president being Mrs. Marie Louise Hatungimana, while the secretary position went to Mr. Domitien Nyandwi, former administrator of the Itaba commune.
The president of the communal council of Gitega, Mr. Thaddée Nyandwi, warmly thanked the communal council of Gitega for the trust placed in the members of the communal office. He called on them to contribute to building the Gitega commune hosting the political capital of Burundi. He noted that the communal office cannot do anything without the contribution of the communal councillors.
Speaking, the new communal administrator of Gitega, Dr. Jacques Nduwimana also thanked the communal councillors for this reappointment to the position of administrator, even though the territory has been expanded. He acknowledged that this mission is not easy to fulfill, but with their contribution, everything will go well.
In Gishubi commune, the new administrator of this commune is Mr. Appolinaire Baryana. The president of the communal council is Omer Hayimana, his deputy is Mrs. Emelyne Nyankawindemera. The communal secretariat will be ensured by Mr. Charles Ntawukirishiga.
In Bugendana commune, the new administrator is Mr. Melchiade Ciza. The president of the communal council is Olivier Bitegimana, the vice-president is Délice Eponine, while the secretary is Mrs. Godeberthe.
In Mwaro commune, all the members of the communal councils were present, including the Vice President of the Republic of Burundi, Prosper Bazombanza, as well as the governor of Gitega province. Both authorities are natives of this commune. Thus, the communal council elected Mr. Calixte Rwarukundo as communal administrator.
Congratulating the newly elected communal administrator, the Vice President of the Republic, Prosper Bazombanza, asked him to be a good father to the governed, to do everything by taking the lead in implementing the vision of Burundi, an emerging country in 2040 and developed in 2060.
In Nyabihanga commune, the vice-president of the senate, Mrs. Dénise Ndadaye, who is also native to the commune, was present at this meeting. Thus, Mrs. Marie Chantal Niyonzima was elected as communal administrator. She was already leading the same commune.
In Muramvya commune, the 25 members of the communal council voted for Mr. Eric Nkurunziza as communal administrator of Muramvya. They also voted for Mr. Christophe Nemeyimana, Mrs. Béatrice Kanyange, and Mr. Jérôme Nduwimana respectively as president and vice-president of the communal council of Muramvya, and secretary of the communal council office.
In Kiganda commune, the members of the communal council voted for Mrs. Diane Irakoze as administrator of Kiganda commune. They also voted for Mr. Herménegilde Rurakengereza as president of the communal council with his deputy Jean Baptiste Ndungitswenayo and Mrs. Jeanne Bizimana as secretary of the communal council office.
