BUJUMBURA, September 20th (ABP) – The country’s First Lady and Chairperson of the “Bonne Action Umugiraneza” foundation, Angéline Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Thursday 19 September 2024 in Bujumbura, the representative of the World Islamic League Bodoza Tabisa Mamela, the representative of the doctors of the Al Bassar foundation, Dr Amir Ahmed Mahmoud, and the representative of the King of Saudi Arabia foundation, Mr Naser Al Saïdi. They had come as part of the zero-cataract campaign in Burundi.
In an interview with the press, Angeline Ndayishimiye thanked the three foundations for their ongoing support for the “Bonne Action Umugiraneza” foundation in the field of health. According to her, development begins with good health, and that contributes to achieving the national vision: ‘Burundi, an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060’.
She also congratulated them on having treated and operated on 320 cataract patients at the Kibimba hospital and 450 others at the Prince Regent Charles hospital in Bujumbura.
The Chairperson of “Bonne Action Umugiraneza” foundation also said that the doctors had noted that glaucoma was not treated in Burundi, that is why the delegation from Saudi Arabia promised to return to treat it.
She also appreciated their generosity, which led them to intervene to save the lives of people from outside their culture, free of charge.
According to the First Lady, human beings are useful to others in any place and in any circumstances, whatever their race, ‘we should live as brothers’, she concluded.
For his part, the representative of the doctors from the Al Bassar foundation, Dr Ahmed Mahmoud, pointed out that that was the third time they had intervened in the health sector, adding that they would continue the cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Burundi.
