KAYANZA, July 7th (ABP) – There is a shortage of PAN 53 hybrid maize seeds in Butaganzwa commune, Kayanza province (north).
This was stated on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, by the administrator of that commune, Mrs. Janvière Kanyana, during the communal launch of growing season C. She therefore asked the Ministry of Agriculture to consider making those seeds available, along with organo-mineral fertilizers, before it is too late.
The activities to launch the 2025 growing season C took place in Rugoma village, in the Ninga zone of the former Kayanza province. In that village, residents have pooled their plots of land to cover over 30 hectares for the practice of bloc farming. These residents must carry out hillside irrigation until the start of the rainy season.
In her speech, the Butaganzwa communal administrator expressed her satisfaction that the work, part of the growing season C, facilitates the supervision of students during the summer holidays.
Although the farmers in the commune have already completed plowing, the hybrid maize seeds distributed are not at all sufficient because, she pointed out, out of over 110 hectares planned for this season, only 5 tons of seeds have been distributed to the commune. With this in mind, the Butaganzwa communal administrator requested that the competent authorities become actively involved so that no farmer is left unserved. The situation is thus at a time when even the organo-mineral fertilizers allocated for this season have not yet been distributed, due to the fact that payment of the balance for the fertilizers ordered has not yet begun. For this reason, farmers call on the Ministry responsible for Agriculture to find a favorable solution to the problem as soon as possible.
