NTAHANGWA, August 2 (ABP) – Under the leadership of the eldest member, Joachin Barutwanayo, the National Assembly convened on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Kigobe hemicycle to establish its new bureau for the 2025-2030 legislature.
As a result, Member of Parliament Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe was elected Speaker of the National Assembly for the 2025-2030 term, with 109 out of 111 votes, representing 98.1%. For the position of first deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, MP Fabrice Nkurunziza was elected with 99.1% of the vote. As for the position of second deputy Speaker, MPs unanimously voted for Mrs. Boussessia Nkezimana.
In his speech, Mr. Ndabirabe first thanked the Almighty for the smooth conduct of the electoral process. He then praised the dynamism of the MP in charge of the preparatory work related to drafting the internal rules and organizing the elections of the new bureau. He went on to urge the MPs to continue their education, strengthen their language skills, especially in English, and train in the use of digital tools. “There will be no more paper documents; everything will be done on computers,” he warned.
