GITEGA, November 7th (ABP) – The commune of Gishubi in the province of Gitega (political capital) is currently threatened by climatic hazards, unlike the other communes in the province.

According to the commune’s administrator, Mrs. Marie Chantal Nduwayezu, the rain mixed with strong winds that fell on Saturday evening, November 2, 2024, on the Nyamutobo and Ntunda villages caused a great deal of material damage.

According to administrator Nduwayezu, the rain destroyed 3 classrooms on the Nyamutobo hill at the Nyamutobo Basic School, built two years ago. Sheet metal and teaching materials such as books and chalk were badly damaged. Pupils are currently lacking classrooms in which to study, she added. She also reported that the rain had damaged the coffee factory store on the same hill, eight residential houses, electricity poles and banana fields.

The administrator of the commune of Gishubi is calling on all charitable people to come to the aid of the victims of those climatic hazards by providing them with blankets for their homes, so that the rain does not continue to destroy them. He also asked for blankets for the classrooms of the Nyamutobo fundamental school, so that the children can continue their studies like the others.

On October 26, 2024, torrential rain and strong winds destroyed more than 10 houses, fields and household goods on the Muhuzu hill in the same commune.
