BUJUMBURA, October 4th (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye, chaired a moralization session on Thursday, October 3, 2024 in Bujumbura, for the leaders of the political parties approved in Burundi, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In his speech, the Head of State said that he brought together those leaders of the political parties to discuss national life in general and the National Vision “Burundi as an emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060”.

Indeed, he indicated that he is pleased with the peaceful climate that reigns on the eve of the elections, which was not the case before.

President Ndayishimiye noted that a country without a vision cannot develop under any circumstances. This is why he made trips throughout the country to explain to the population the true merits of the vision in order to make it their own.

This vision does not belong to the Head of State but belongs to all Burundians: “The national vision does not belong to me as some think but it belongs to you, it belongs to the entire Burundian population. Because, otherwise, the vision would end with my term but my successors will continue to work for its achievement”, he underscored.

He thus invited those political leaders to do the same by explaining to their supporters the principles of the national vision.

The Head of State spoke on various subjects during the moralization session. He indicated that during his visit to Zambia, he noted that the price of maize seeds is affordable. For this, he decided that Burundi should obtain supplies from that country: “Before, maize seeds cost BIF 25,000 per kg but, from now on, 1 kg only costs BIF 4,500, which is a sigh of relief for the population,” he said. However, the President of the Republic regrets that Burundi obtains such seeds from abroad, while the country has seed centers that should take care of it. He deplored the fact that there is currently an apparent lack of potato seeds, while the population has sufficiently prepared for its cultivation. “I have taken enough time to sensitize the population to exploit empty land by growing potatoes there. My call was widely heard but, to my great surprise, I have just noticed the scarcity of potato seeds, while the country has centers like ISABU,” he regretted.

The Head of State also returned to certain elements that constitute the development capital where he cited leadership, education, security, environmental protection, to name but a few.

Regarding the environment, the President of the Republic stressed that the environment constitutes an irreversible wealth that must be carefully preserved and maintained. This is possible thanks to certain actions such as contour line drawing (radical drawing) to facilitate water retention and avoid soil degradation, reforestation and others.

President Ndayishimiye also encouraged those leaders of political parties to remain united around the national vision and to prepare for the next elections. “Everything will be possible thanks to the education you will have instilled in your supporters,” he specified.

The Minister of the Interior, Public Security and Community Development, Martin Niteretse, had, in his keynote address, informed that members of the various political parties coexist peacefully throughout the national territory.

He also pointed out that the activities of political parties are going smoothly even if there are a handful of ill-intentioned grassroots administrative officials who sometimes try to disrupt them.

However, Minister Niteretse had to specify that when those political leaders inform this situation in time, the problem is automatically resolved without disrupting activities.

He invited the leaders of political parties to maintain such a responsible behavior that characterizes them in these days and especially to sensitize their members not to be distracted by the elections. He recommended that the same leaders of political parties prepare their representatives in time, for them to know their role to play on the Election Day.
