GITEGA, May 26 (ABP) – The association Twitezimbere, with the support of Health Action International and the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Burundi, organized a two-day workshop in Gitega (the political capital and center of Burundi) to train journalists on new communication technologies for advocacy in sexual and reproductive health, a check on site by ABP has revealed.

This training aimed to equip journalists from the provinces of Muyinga, Ngozi, Gitega, and Kirundo, to play a more strategic role in conducting advocacy at local and national levels, and to provide them with knowledge in managing, processing, and storing media productions within the framework of the multi-actor project “MSE.”

Lewis Ihimbazwe from the Twitezimbere association stated that in a constantly evolving world, communication strategies are rapidly changing, especially with the emergence of new digital tools, the evolution of social media algorithms, and renewed dynamics of public engagement.

View of the journalists present

He pointed out that journalists involved in advocacy actions must master these new communication channels to better structure, target, and disseminate their messages. For this reason, according to him, Twitezimbere organized this training workshop for journalists in connection with the MSE project.

The journalists present at the workshop warmly thanked the Twitezimbere association for the knowledge gained in managing social networks, image capture, and video editing. Each journalist produced a video from images they personally captured. They suggested holding further sessions to deepen the acquired skills.
