DAVOS, January 21st (AMSP/CGTN) –  – The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) has been taking place in Davos, Switzerland, where global leaders, economists, and scholars are collaborating to address pressing global issues.

This year’s Davos meeting is themed “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.” The event has brought together nearly 3,000 leaders from over 130 countries. It’s expected to address global challenges and explore emerging opportunities. At the opening ceremony, Klaus Schwab, the founder of the forum, said in his speech that the world has to come face to face with an erosion of trust in society, calling for global collaborative work to regain trust.

“This can only be achieved by genuinely addressing the existential fears of many—those of marginalized communities, those concerned about accelerating environmental degradation, and those worried about being left behind in the transition to the intelligent age,” said Klaus Schwab, the founder of the forum.

Meanwhile, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang also gave special addresses. Ding stressed on the importance of globalization and multilateralism.

“Economic globalization is a result of social progress and technological advances, and it cannot be stopped. Protectionism does not solve problems, and trade wars help no one. We should take every chance to guide economic globalization, tackle issues of fair development through openness, work together to grow stronger, and move economic globalization toward a better stage that is more lively, fair, and lasting,” said Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang

The World Economic Forum is one of the most internationally influential economic events. Earlier this month, the organization released this year’s Global Risks Report, highlighting significant threats over the next decade, including misinformation, geopolitical tensions and the escalating climate crisis. These challenges require urgent and collective action, exactly why global leaders, economists and scholars are there to find solutions.
