BURURI December 11th (ABP) – Passengers using the Bururi-Rumonge and Bururi- Matana routes are grumbling about the excessive increase in transport fares without justification, even though petrol-type fuel is available at the stations, as ABP observed on Thursday December 5 and Friday December 6, 2024. The drivers have given themselves the right to set the price of the transport ticket on the Bururi – Rumonge route from 6,000BIF to 10,000BIF. On the Bururi – Matana route, the fare rose from 5,000 to 10,000BIF.
Passengers are insisting on the intervention of the administration and the police in charge of road traffic, to ensure that fares are respected. The drivers have kept the same fares, even though petrol-type fuel is available at the stations.
Drivers report that few of them have access to the fuel supply at the pumps, as they don’t have the app installed on their phones, from where they resort to expensive fraudulent fuel.
As there are few transport vehicles in the parking lots, the drivers would have decided to stock up on fuel, then empty the tanks, park their vehicles at home and sell the fuel by fraud where they make exorbitant profits.
Juvent Ndayikeza, the governor’s chief of staff, has indicated that severe sanctions are being imposed on speculative drivers, and has appealed to passengers to report cases of improper loading and higher fares. For motorcycle trips, three to five people are seen on board.
