KAYANZA, February 12th (ABP) – Some 520 vulnerable families from ten villages of the Muhanga commune in Kayanza province (north), which participated in the work of cleaning and tracing irrigation channels and connecting roads in the Ruvubu swamp, were assisted with food by the local administration.
About 13 tonnes of rice were distributed by the provincial representative of the ministry in charge of national solidarity in Kayanza province, in the company of the administrator of the Muhanga commune, Mr. Benoit Ndayizeye.
According to him, families in vulnerable situations, including those from the Batwa community, have already changed their mentalities by rolling up their sleeves to avoid going begging.
For her part, the provincial director in charge of family and social development in Kayanza, Mrs. Célénie Ndayisaba, underscored that it is with that in mind that the ministry in charge of gender collected all this quantity of rice to come to the aid of these vulnerable people who cleaned and traced the irrigation channels and roads located in the Ruvubu hydro-agricultural swamp.
She insisted that from now on the Burundian government will only assist vulnerable families who contribute to integral development.
On that occasion, 520 vulnerable families from the ten villages of the Muhanga commune were assisted. On the beneficiaries’ side, it was a feeling of satisfaction. Thus, they committed to no longer cross their arms or wander the streets to beg.
