GITEGA, May 28 (ABP) – The Burundi Bwa Bose Coalition held its election campaign activities on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the basketball pitch of Gitega province (the political capital), ahead of the legislative elections scheduled for June 5, 2025, ABP learned on site.
These activities were held under the theme: “Twubake Uburundi bwa bose, Uburundi bw’iteka, Uburundi bushasha” (“Let’s build a Burundi for all, a Burundi of honor, a new Burundi”).
the attendance included the chairman of the coalition, Mr. Patrick Nkurunziza, along with the leaders of the coalition’s member political parties, including FRODEBU, CODEBU, FEDES Sangira, and CNDD.
Mr. Nkurunziza presented their political agenda to the supporters of the new Gitega province. Among their main goals, he cited the intention to replace the CNDD-FDD party that has been in power since 2025, strengthen law enforcement and public security, consolidate democracy based on political pluralism, reinforce the judicial sector, and revitalize the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR), in order to prevent a recurrence of the tragic events that have plagued Burundi.
He also mentioned that the coalition would work to strengthen diplomatic relations between Burundi and other countries, especially neighboring ones. It also plans to repatriate refugees, release political prisoners, reorganize communal council elections, and allocate sufficient resources to communes so they can truly serve as the foundation of community development.

He emphasized the need to revise the Burundian Constitution, particularly laws related to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and those that disregard the Arusha Agreement. He called for the reopening of media outlets shut down in 2015, the return of journalists exiled since that time, the abolition of blocked party lists, and the repeal of laws preventing independent candidates from being elected, such as the requirement to obtain 40% of votes to become a deputy. He urged the population to vote for the Burundi Bwa Bose coalition in order to build, according to him, a prosperous country.
Mr. Keffa Nibizi, speaking afterward, expressed concern over politicians who are calling on Burundians not to vote. He urged the population to get up early and go vote, stating that all change must come through elections.
