The visit was aimed at monitoring the progress of the cardiovascular surgery program for 20 children who were admitted to the center at the beginning of June 2025.

In his speech, the coordinator of the Bonne Action –Umugiraneza – Foundation Aimable Sindayikengera, praised the progress of the program, noting that 14 children who recently underwent surgery are doing well, and 6 others are awaiting treatment. He also mentioned that among these 20 children, 7 received care thanks to the support of the Bonne Action – Umugiraneza – Foundation.

For his part, the Director General of HMK, Dr. Marc Nimburanira, also expressed gratitude to the Bonne Action – Umugiraneza – Foundation, particularly First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye, for their multifaceted support.

Dr. Nimburanira explained that the creation of a thoracic cardiovascular surgery center is a project being implemented by several partners, including HMK, the German NGO Kinderherzen, the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation, and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Burundi (UB).

He further revealed that training healthcare professionals to assist with surgeries and treatment for cardiovascular diseases is currently underway. “This is a priority, as those who help us in this field today will not remain in Burundi,” Dr. Nimburanira noted.

He took the opportunity to urge parents to consult doctors immediately if they observe symptoms such as skin discoloration turning bluish in newborns, palpitations (rapid or irregular heartbeats), rapid weight loss or gain, etc.

It should be noted that the Bonne Action Umugiraneza Foundation has supported these children with both food and non-food supplies, including soap, diapers, “Go Fresh” juices, jewelry, and body lotion or cream.
