Burundi to prepare for an economic roundtable in December

BUJUMBURA, November 22nd (ABP) – The government of Burundi will host from December 5 to 6, 2024, in Bujumbura, an economic roundtable for national and foreign investors from the public and private sectors. The announcement was made by Albert Shingiro, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation (MAECD), on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, during a briefing session, organized for heads of diplomatic and consular missions; representatives of regional and international organizations accredited to Bujumbura.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Shingiro indicated that the two-day economic roundtable will offer participants a unique platform to explore growth and investment opportunities in high-potential sectors, such as renewable energy, infrastructure, digital technologies, transport, equipment, mining, tourism, health, education and processed agriculture.

Furthermore, he pointed out that this opportunity will provide an opportunity to meet key decision-makers from the Burundian government who will present the reforms undertaken to improve the business environment, simplify taxation and strengthen investment security; access attractive incentives and facilities, such as tax exemptions, innovative financing programmes and guarantee mechanisms for foreign investors.

Shingiro also stressed that the event will be an opportunity to interact with local and foreign entrepreneurs in the context of exclusive networking sessions, promoting the creation of strategic partnerships and joint ventures in the promising sectors of the Burundian economy.

View of the participants

According to him, the economic round table will also be an opportunity to benefit from a clear and updated vision of the government’s priority projects, particularly within the framework of the revised National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2027, aligned with the Vision “Burundi, Emerging Country by 2040 and Developed country in 2060”.

Note that during the briefing session, Shingiro emphasized that the participation in that economic forum of delegations from the public and private sectors of the respective countries of the diplomatic corps, will not only provide an overview of investment opportunities in Burundi, but also give them privileged access to transformative projects in line with the challenges of sustainable development and economic competitiveness.
