BUJUMBURA, November 25th (ABP) – The presidency of the Republic of Burundi has announced that a round table is planned for December 5-6, 2024, for the mobilization of resources and private investments to achieve the vision of Burundi as an emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060.
As it is specified on the website of the presidency of the Republic of Burundi, the government of Burundi organized, in November 2021, a National Forum on Development which brought together, among others, representatives of the public administration, the private sector, universities, local bilateral and multilateral partners, the diaspora and civil society organizations. In the process, a mini-round table with the same partners, to whom were added foreign non-governmental organizations working in Burundi, was organized in December of the same year.
Inspired by the conclusions of these two events, the government designed and adopted the document “Vision Burundi, emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060”. Its purpose is to make Burundi a prosperous nation thanks to a sustained increase in the production of goods and services, and structural changes leading to the improvement of life expectancy, the satisfaction of basic needs, as well as the reduction of inequalities, unemployment and poverty in all its dimensions.
The Vision Burundi, emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060 having been adopted, the government then began the revision of the National Development Plan 2018-2027 to align it with the orientations of the Vision in order to make it a true National Transformation Strategy so that it serves as the first programmatic phase of implementation of the Vision through its Priority Action Program 2023-2027 (PAP).
The total amount of the revised PND is BIF 85,704.8 billion (or USD 29.9 billion) which will be financed by the government of Burundi, development partners and the private sector. To fill the financing gap and create the conditions for the realization of its vision, Burundi plans to organize a resource mobilization round table from December 5 to 6, 2024. As stated on the website, the general goal of the round table is to share the government’s vision for the socio-economic development of Burundi as well as the reforms envisaged and underway, in order to mobilize all stakeholders and the financial resources necessary for the implementation of the vision.
The specific goals of this activity are developed in five points. It is about sharing the main orientations of the vision Burundi, emerging country by 2040 and developed country in 2060. It is also to present the revised PND (2018-2027), its Priority Action Plan, as well as the financial resources necessary for its implementation.
Another specific goal is to gather views and obtain support from donors and creditors on the government’s reform programmes, their roadmaps and implementation schedules, namely gathering views and obtaining support from donors and creditors on the government’s reform programmes, their roadmaps and implementation schedules, as well as disclosing the roadmap and implementation schedule of the government’s reform programme.
These goals also include fostering commitments, especially through the announcement and confirmation of funding intentions by various partners and strengthening partnerships between the government, development partners, the private sector and civil society.
According to information from the Presidency of the Republic’s website, the two-day activity will be honored with the presence of the Head of State and one thousand (1000) participants at the Kigobe Congress Center, where six themes will be developed.
