NGOZI, January 7th (ABP) – Monkeypox disease (MPOX) is still present in Ngozi province, according to the director of Ngozi regional hospital, Dr Guillaume Ntawukuriryayo.

He reported that five Mpox patients are still undergoing treatment for the disease at the hospital, including a child and a 25-day-old baby. Those patients are placed in isolation to prevent contamination to other patients attending that hospital.

The director of Ngozi hospital affirms that all the patients who consulted his establishment have recovered well and have been discharged.

Dr. Ntawukuriryayo feels, however, that preventive measures have not been properly applied. He hopes that the campaign will continue, as many people no longer care. It should be noted here that the barrier measures to prevent and combat the monkeypox pandemic are no longer being followed.

People kiss easily when they greet each other, hand-washing is no longer the rule, and even measures to prevent sexual transmission are no longer respected,” he laments.

Monkeypox is a highly transmissible disease that can lead to serious health consequences, including paralysis and death, if not treated in time. It can only be treated in a health facility, and not by traditional practitioners or witch doctors.
