Residents are urged to comply with barrier measures in the fight against Mpox

Ngozi, September 12th (ABP) – The governor of Ngozi province Désiré Minani held a meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2024, for the heads of services working in Ngozi, representatives of religious denominations and civil society.

Some decisions were taken at that meeting. From Friday, September 6, 2024, in Ngozi, any place frequented by a large public must be provided with clean water and handwashing equipment. Offenders are exposed to administrative penalties including a fine of 100,000 BIF.

Churches and mosques are asked to facilitate the distancing of their faithful by increasing the number of masses and prayers and reducing the number of choir members. Distancing is also required during the sacraments of penance and the Eucharist.

The inhabitants of Ngozi must observe barrier measures to fight Mpox. It’s about avoiding shaking hands, kissing, and kissing.

They are also recommended to avoid adultery, contact with the sick and objects they have touched. During that meeting, a wish was expressed for the decentralization of the smallpox screening service, especially since the service remains provided by a small team from the INSP which must travel throughout the country.

Those measures come as a case of smallpox has been announced in Kiremba district. Another 14 suspected cases are reported in hospitals in Muremera, Ngozi, Nyamurenza and Musenyi.
