MUYINGA, April 2nd (ABP) – Women should leave the family compound to develop, said Béate Mukeshimana, representative of the “Mukenyezi girijambo” association on Migunga village in the Gasorwe commune, in an interview with ABP on Wednesday 26 March 2025.
Mukeshimana explained that the association is made up of thirty women and that its aim is to develop through agriculture and livestock farming. To achieve that, she mentioned that they save money through mutual loans, in order to help their households increase their resources. She added that those members are aiming to improve their livestock farming, which will help them to earn an income.
Although not much time has passed since they started working together, Mukeshimana said that the members are preparing to go far by joining forces. She also said that they are working with the Tugarukire Ibidukikije cooperative in Muyinga (TIM for short), which has already helped them by providing domestic animals, seeds and equipment for their activities, such as hoes and watering cans. Some members of that association also thanked the TIM cooperative, adding that those women are ready to increase their production since they have had a good start.
In conclusion, they deplored the problems linked to the lack of organo-mineral fertilisers and climate change, which are hampering their development. They stressed that they will be able to develop thanks to their collaboration. They also encouraged their peers and other women to leave home and join the sustainable development process.
