BUJUMBURA, January 23rd (ABP) – Women’s trades contribute greatly to the development of their families. This was stated by Félicité Ndayisenga, a shoemaker entrepreneur at the leather products manufacturing company (SOFAPROC) in Bujumbura City, during an interview with a check by ABP on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Ndayisenga revealed that she decided to learn the shoemaking trade to provide for her family and not to be sidelined when making financial decisions within her household. She said that after learning the trade, she became financially independent and contributes greatly to the well-being of her family.
For her, starting her business was not easy because of social and cultural norms that reserve certain trades for men. She said despite these challenges, she persevered and is now among the manufacturers of good quality shoes in Kigobe.
Ndayisenga encourages other women to get involved in entrepreneurial projects for their empowerment and to contribute to the development of their families.
