BUJUMBURA, September 23rd (ABP) – Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca was registered on Friday, September 20, 2024, at his home. Speaking at the end of the census, the Prime Minister indicated that the general census allows the country to properly draw up its development projects by responding to the needs of the population. To that end, he thanked the population in general for responding to that census.
The Prime Minister said that the data updated by the national census orientation committee on Thursday, September 19, 2024 showed results below 60% of households already registered in certain parts of Bujumbura City. He explained that this situation arises from the fact that, on the one hand, people to be counted do not respect the appointments that they agree with the census takers. On the other hand, access to households is difficult for census takers, he added.
Mr. Ndirakobuca called on the uncounted population to respond to the census during the remaining days. To those who are indifferent to this large-scale activity, he said that there will be repercussions for them, stressing that they will not benefit from certain advantages that could be granted to them by the government.
The Prime Minister said that this census provides very important provisional data, which informs the government and its partners in terms of drawing up population development projects. These provisional data allow the State to build, among other things, hospitals, schools and good roads that contribute to the development of the country and the population, according to the Prime Minister.
Ndirakobuca was keen to inform that at the end of the registration, each household receives a receipt that shows that the latter has been counted. He stressed that this receipt must be kept jealously because it is very important. For conservation purposes, Ndirakobuca informed that this receipt will be designed biometrically.
