KARUSI, January 24th (ABP) – Burundi Head of State Evariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by the US Ambassador to Burundi and executives from the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, visited on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, model fields and livestock farms belonging to cooperatives and deputies who have come together to produce potato seeds for the population.
They first visited the rice cooperative in Kigoma village, then the cooperative of MPs in Nyamugari village of Buhiga commune. Subsequently, the President of the Republic and his companions went to the fields belonging to him on Shanga hill and the fish ponds of Canzikiro, in Bugenyuzi commune, before visiting the Rusamaza agricultural cooperative in Gihogazi.
At the Nyamugari agricultural cooperative belonging to the deputies, Hon. Olivier Suguru presented a large potato field at the hoeing stage on 7 ha, and a vast corn field. The Head of State took the opportunity to explain to the public and especially to the delegation of the United States Embassy, the advantages of operating in cooperatives.
He indicated that the goal is to transform all inedible herbs into edible herbs. “If we look at the rice and corn fields across the country, the trend is to move from consumption to export,” noted the President of the Republic.
