The CEPIs announce victory for CNDD-FDD in legislative and communal elections in Butanyerera and Burunga provinces

BUTANYERERA/BURUNGA, June 11 (ABP) – The Independent Provincial Electoral Commissions (CEPI) of Butanyerera and Burunga presented, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the provisional results of the legislative and communal elections held on June 5, 2025.

In Butanyerera province, the CNDD-FDD party won by a sweeping 99%, while other competing parties received less than 1% of the vote.

In his introductory remarks, the president of the CEPI Butanyerera, Mr. Désiré Minani, praised the coordinated efforts that characterized the various stakeholders involved in the elections, from the preparatory phase through to the actual voting process.

He emphasized that the recent elections were marked by freedom, democracy, and transparency. Voter turnout was close to 99%, which, according to him, reflects the population’s growing awareness of the importance of electing their leaders.

In his detailed presentation, he stated that in Busoni Commune, where 162,775 voters were expected, CNDD-FDD gained 161,421 votes, amounting to 99.5%. The UPRONA party came in second with 579 votes, or 0.35%, while CNL finished third with 192 votes, or 0.11%.

In Kayanza Commune, CNDD-FDD secured a resounding victory with 99.6%, earning 161,595 votes out of 162,856 expected voters. UPRONA and CNL followed with 312 and 162 votes respectively, while FNL came last with 78 votes, equal to 0.04%.

In Kiremba Commune, CNDD-FDD received 127,967 votes out of 128,306 expected voters, a rate of 99.2%. UPRONA received 496 votes, while CNL obtained only 444.

In Kirundo Commune, CNDD-FDD won the double election with 99.7%, equivalent to 213,994 votes. UPRONA received 279 votes, and CNL had 157.

In Matongo Commune, CNDD-FDD won the elections with 99.8%, while UPRONA and CNL each obtained 0.1%.

In Muhanga commune, the ruling party received 99.5%, UPRONA 0.33%, and CNL 0.1%.

In Ngozi commune, the CNDD-FDD swept the elections with 96.7%, while the UPRONA and CNL parties lost with 1.7% and 1.5%, respectively.
In Tangara commune, the CNDD-FDD won the dual vote with 98%, while UPRONA obtained 1.48%. The CNL party and an independent named Viateur Ndayishimiye received 0.32% and 0.14%, respectively.

Considering these results, all 25 communal seats go to the CNDD-FDD party, as no other party reached 2% of the votes cast.

In Burunga province, the CNDD-FDD party won 174 out of 176 seats in the communal elections, according to the chairperson of CEPI Burunga, Philémon Nahabandi. According to him, the voter turnout in the elections was 96.61% out of 1,020,579 registered voters.

Among those who voted, evaluated at 96.61%, 971,413 cast their ballots. There were 6,070 invalid ballots and 8,601 abstentions.

The CNDD-FDD won all 25 seats in the communes of Bururi, Makamba, Matana, Musongati, Nyanza, and Rumonge, while in Rutana commune; the CNDD-FDD won 24 seats. UPRONA and CNL each obtained one seat following the co-optation of a communal councilor from the Batwa ethnic group on the CNDD-FDD list.
The president of CEPI Burunga also indicated that a two-day appeal period is set starting from Wednesday, June 11, noting that any appeals will be reviewed over three days from June 13 to June 15, 2025.

He finally stated that both national and international observers were present. However, he regretted that party representatives were late in some polling stations, and some of them left early.
