BUJUMBURA, January 31st (ABP) – The Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, Gervais Ndirakobuca, received the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Burundi, Chadrack Mbulelo Bungane, in his office on Wednesday 29 January 2025. He had come on a courtesy visit to discuss the strengthening of long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation between Burundi and South Africa.
On leaving the audience, the Prime Minister’s Office spokesman, Moïse Nkurunziza, told the press that the South African ambassador to Burundi had told the Prime Minister that his country wanted to support Burundi in the communications sector, especially in the digitisation of the various government services. Mbulelo also told the Burundian head of government about the steps already taken by South Africa in the mining sector.
He took the opportunity to inform the Prime Minister that South African private investors are ready to come and invest in Burundi, but also to provide technical assistance. The ambassador of the Republic of South Africa did not fail to request the Prime Minister’s support in speeding up the memorandums of understanding currently being analysed by the various sectoral ministries in order to make the said cooperation perceptible.
According to Moïse Nkurunziza, the Prime Minister praised the good relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between Burundi and South Africa. He recalled South Africa’s role in restoring peace and stability to Burundi. He welcomed South Africa’s forthcoming investments in support of Burundi’s development. The Prime Minister’s Office spokesman pointed out that the two authorities ended their talks with a joint commitment to promote good relations in the interests of the people of Burundi and South Africa.
