BUJUMBURA, January 20th (ABP) – Garbage bags play a vital role in increasing agricultural production and hygiene, Miss Violette Nshimirimana, an amaranth farmer residing in Kavumu, in rural Kanyosha district, told a check by ABP, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 during an interview.

Miss Nshimirimana indicated that from garbage bags containing waste from households, some families use them to increase agricultural production. These bags are used in planting vegetables, squash and onions, she added.

According to her, vegetables grow well in these bags even if the soil is infertile. That is to say, household waste contains elements essential for the growth of vegetables. She added that the plants sown in those bags have a visually appealing image, which makes the place clean.

She castigates some people who prefer to clandestinely dispose of bags containing household waste by throwing them in rivers and roads.

It is worthy to note that Burundi launched the “zero waste” campaign in the city of Bujumbura last April in order to protect the environment.
