December 27th (AMSP/CGTN) – – In a previous interview with CGTN host Wang Guan, former Slovenian President Danilo Türk emphasizes the need for deeper dialogue between the EU and China.
Reflecting on a key moment in 2024 – when the European Commission decided to impose countervailing tariffs on China-made EVs – Türk calls the move counterproductive, arguing it won’t benefit either the EU or its partners.
“The quality of vehicles, the availability of vehicles, the affordability of vehicles has been such that European manufacturers were all surprised, and European institutions are taking the kind of automatic response that is higher tariffs. That’s not a good approach,” said former Slovenian President Danilo Türk.
“In the European Union, we really need a further discussion on how we want to work with China, because China has become so important and so effective in many ways that we have to define our cooperative arrangements in an adequate way,” noted Danilo Türk.
“We have to figure out how to bring the European Union and China closely into a comprehensive process of improvement,” he added, calling for greater cooperation.
