BURURI, October 3rd (ABP) – School results in external assessments have not been satisfactory over the last two years in the Bururi school province, which occupies the last places.
The situation is very worrying for the administrative authorities, said the administrator of the Bururi commune, Félix Niyongabo, during a meeting held on Monday, October 1, 2024, at the headquarters of the Bururi province, for school officials and grassroots administrative officials, a check by ABP revealed.
For school principals, the lack of teachers, teaching materials and school infrastructure are the causes of school failure.
However, some of the principals have been singled out for not properly carrying out their role of supervising teachers. These teachers, in turn, are absent from work and take care of their own activities, others come to work without having prepared course notes, still others do not give enough homework and quizzes to their educatees.
On the parents’ and administrative officials’ side, they were called upon to supervise their children at home and not leave this duty only to educators.
Mr. Niyongabo said that the administration from the village to the district should closely monitor education.
He thus asked administrative officials to participate in meetings with the directors to transmit the education report to the district each week and to take stock of school dropouts.
They recommended that at the end of each term, an evaluation meeting of education stakeholders should be held to correct the errors of the past term and thus adopt new strategies to improve the results of the following term.
