RUYIGI, November  7th (ABP) – More than 40 people were injured in a road accident in the Nyabitare zone of the Gisuru commune in Ruyigi province on Thursday, October 31, 2024. All those people are currently in Gisuru district hospital for treatment, and no deaths have been recorded, according to Ninganza Gad, Gisuru commune administrator.

However, he appealed to users of the Rusengo-Gisuru road, commonly known as “irya bunyuro”, to respect the lives of the population and avoid speeding. That accident occurred in the Nyabitare zone, at Migende hill, on the road linking the Rusenngo zone to the Tanzanian border, passing through the chief town of the present-day commune of Gisuru.

The real reasons why the vehicle skidded off the road are not yet known, as the driver vanished into thin air after seeing the damage he had caused. “We are still in pursuit. We have recorded 41 injured people, some of them seriously, who have been taken directly to Gisuru district hospital. Others have minor injuries and are able to continue medical treatment from their own homes. It should be noted that there were no fatalities at the scene of the accident,” said Ninganza.

He asks users to respect the highway code and abandon the habit of driving at excessive speed.
