BUJUMBURA, September 24th (ABP) – 98.5% is the percentage of households that have been counted at the national level, after 20 days planned for the census campaign.
This was announced on Sunday, September 22, 2024 by the secretary of the National Orientation Committee of the General Census of Population, Housing, Agriculture and Livestock (CNOR), Nicolas Ndayishimiye, after the holding of the evaluation meeting organized by the Prime Minister, Gervais Ndirakobuca, chairman of that committee.
Mr. Ndayishimiye indicated that he noticed disparities at the level of the 5 provinces resulting from the new geographical division, ranging between 99.7% for the Buhumuza province at the top of the ranking, and 96.2% for the Bujumbura province at the bottom of ranking.
As the census campaign is scheduled to close on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 6 p.m., the secretary of the CNOR informed that the members of the committee have decided to give another chance to households not yet counted. Thus, data collection has been extended until Friday, September 27, 2024 at 6 p.m.
He called on households not yet counted to seize that opportunity to fulfill their duty and the census takers who have completed the collection to support those who are late, so that the enumeration can be 100% complete.
Regarding the grumbling of census takers who say that they do not receive their salary regularly, he reassured them that the CNOR is doing everything to mobilize the banks to release the funds.
It should be noted that 18 thousand census takers have been deployed throughout the country.
