BUJUMBURA, February 27th (2025) –University of Burundi Students are lamenting the current delay in the grant loan.
This was announced anonymously by a student from the Kiriri campus in an interview with ABP on Wednesday 26 February 2025.
N.E, a third-year baccalaureate student in civil engineering, said that although the scholarship loan had been increased from 60,000 BIF to 100,000 BIF per month, the money was not reaching them regularly, as stated in the contract the students had signed, indicating that it arrived once a term.
The sum of 100,000 BIF is still insufficient, he lamented, as many students are renting houses at a time when the cost of rent is constantly rising.
Another student met by a check by ABP said that many students don’t take enough time to attend classes, because they waste all their time looking for something to eat. Some work for security firms, while others seek survival on construction sites, which has a negative impact on their level of knowledge.
He called on the government to reopen the University canteens so that students can live in good conditions.
