Towards the end of the 18th edition of the Caravan of the Torch of Peace

The governor of Kayanza hands over the Torch of Peace to the Speaker of the lower house of parliament

KAYANZA, December 2nd (ABP) – On its journey through all the country’s provinces, the 18th edition of the Caravan of the Torch of Peace was welcomed in Kayanza province on Friday, November 29, 2024. The handover ceremonies took place between the governor of Ngozi, Désiré Minani, and his Kayanza counterpart, Rémy Cishahayo, at Maridadi, on the border between the two provinces.

The ceremonies were attended by the Speaker of the national assembly, Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe, the provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in Butanyerera, the country’s former first lady, Denise Nkurunziza, members of parliament elected in the Kayanza province constituency, and other executives and senior officials from the province.

After its reception, the torch of peace was taken to the headquarters of the enlarged commune of Matongo, where it illuminated the concrete mixing works for the concreting of the first floor of the four-storey communal office currently under construction.

In their respective speeches, the local administrator of Matongo and the governor of Kayanza hailed the fact that that torch is being carried throughout the country at a time when peace and security are a reality in the entities under their responsibility.  Speaking to the local population, Épipode Baranyikwa, president of the Intwararumuri association and bearer of the message from Burundi’s Head of State, expressed his delight at the warm welcome they had received from the people of Matongo.

by the people of Matongo. He also praised the fact that the local population was still working hard, and that representatives of various sectors were supporting the organization of activities organized as part of the torch of peace.

In his speech, the President of the National Assembly, Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe, who is also a native of the extended Matongo commune, pointed out that that is a special day that happens only once a year. He invited the population to take advantage of the peace and security prevailing throughout the country as they went about their daily activities. “May that torch enlighten us in everything we do, our intelligence and our hearts, so that we can distinguish lies from truth”, he added. He added that that would help to strengthen the unity of the Burundian people. “Let’s congratulate the Head of State, who has been visionary in limiting the provinces and communes of our country, because it’s time to develop and build the country.

The closing ceremonies of that year’s Peace Torch Caravan will take place that Saturday at the Gatwaro stadium in the headquarters of Kayanza province.
