BUJUMBURA, March 26th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, Mrs. Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In an interview with the media following the audience, Mrs. Kayikwamba said that she was carrying a message from the President of the DRC, Mr. Félix Tshisekedi, on the bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to Mrs. Kayikwamba, it is a message of recognition for the solidarity and friendship that bind the two peoples. It is also a message about the prospect of strengthening those bilateral relations well beyond the crisis that is testing the two countries. It is also a message of recognition of the fact that Burundi has opened its doors to Congolese men, women and children who have fled the war and welcomed them as brothers. In her view, it was a message of thanks for the generosity of the people and government of Burundi, which has welcomed more than 79,000 Congolese refugees.

According to the spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi, Rosine Guilène Gatoni, President Ndayishimiye did not fail to appreciate the good relations that already exist between the two countries. He also reassured the audience that peace would be restored in the east of the DRC, adding that the international community had risen up to denounce the war raging in the country.

The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange views on areas of development cooperation between the two countries, according to Mrs. Gatoni, adding that the two senior figures affirmed that they will continue to strengthen cooperation, which will lead to sustainable development.
