BUJUMBURA, March 19th (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Johan Borgstam, the European Union (EU) Special Representative to the Great Lakes Region, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.
In a press interview on the sideline of the audience, Johan Borgstam indicated that the discussions with the Burundian Head of State focused on the security and humanitarian situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The discussion was also an opportunity to share with President Ndayishimiye the EU’s initiatives and efforts to stabilize the security situation in eastern DRC, while contributing to humanitarian assistance for those affected by this situation. Borgstam also indicated that he would visit one of the refugee camps in Cibitoke on Wednesday, March 19.
During their talks, the Burundian president shared with Borgstam the efforts Burundi is making to achieve peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, said the Deputy Spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Sébastien Ntahongendera.
