CANKUZO, January 22nd (ABP) – The number of malaria cases is high in Cankuzo province.
This was revealed by Frédéric Faustin Irambona, medical director of the provincial health Bureau in Cankuzo, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, during a coordination meeting of partners, for the assessment of the current situation of this sector in the province.
As indicated by the medical director of the provincial health office in Cankuzo, the high number of malaria cases is generally observed in the last three and first three months of the year, a period during which there is heavy rainfall and the transplanting of rice in the swamps.
Mosquitoes hide and lay eggs in stagnant water, he explained. In addition, the fact that mosquito nets are old or poorly used is one of the causes of this high level of malaria cases, up to the level close to the alert threshold that was observed in November last year 2024, Irambona explained.
He called on the population to hurry to health centers to get tested in case of discomfort. It is worth noting that the highest figures were recorded in the Murore health district, particularly in the areas of responsibility of Bunyerere, Rusigabangazi and Mishiha.
