Distribution of seeds to beneficiaries

KIRUNDO, March 13th (ABP) – The NGO World Vision Burundi distributed bean seeds to 2,883 households in the border communes of Bugabira and Kirundo, with the aim of assisting victims of the effects of the water deficit observed in certain areas of Kirundo province (north) during growing season A, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Ceru village of Kirundo commune received 3,498 tonnes of bean seeds for 583 households, while Gaturanda, Nyabikenke, and Ruhehe villages of Bugabira commune received 13,800 tonnes for 2,300 households. These seeds are intended for growing season B, according to administrative officials and the World Vision Burundi representative.

The Governor’s Advisor for Development, Mrs. Virginie Cimpaye, commended that initiative from partner World Vision Burundi. She asked the beneficiaries to stop selling those seeds and, instead, to use them during this growing season B. This assistance follows the recommendations of the Governor of Kirundo, who met with all partners in the field of food security and nutrition to discuss emergency response for victims of weather variations.
