BUJUMBURA, December 23rd (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye, along with former presidents Sylvestre Ntibantunganya and Domitien Ndayizeye, sat on a panel on Saturday, December 14, 2024, on the vision of Burundi: an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country in 2060. The three personalities discussed all possible outcomes to achieve this vision.
The Head of State noted, first of all, that the year 2025 is synonymous with the start of achieving the vision. Speaking on the issue related to investors who face corruption and prefer to abandon investing in Burundi, the Head of State replied that the country has taken measures to attract investors and allow them to carry out activities in Burundi. These measures aim to stamp out corruption practiced against them by certain government officials. President Ndayishimiye also indicated that the steps already taken are promising towards achieving the vision. In this regard, he wanted to reassure the Burundian population that this vision will undoubtedly be achieved. For him, Burundi is taking the path of other countries that have managed to achieve their vision.
For former President Sylvestre Ntibantunganya, to achieve the vision, administrative officials must be made aware of the need for in-depth change and be aware that they must work for the higher interest of the nation and not aim for their own interest. He notes that achieving the vision requires that the youth be deeply involved, by being informed of the stages of the vision and what is required of them, so that they are involved by giving their all, because the vision 2040-2060 belongs to them. He called on decision-makers to put a lot of commitment into it so that these youths are informed and involved.
For his part, former President Domitien Ndayizeye, he considers that the success of the vision requires compliance with 3 major principles: love of the country, enforcement of the law and working in synergy. He advocates the opening up of the country; he notes that the legendary warm welcome of Burundians is an important asset that must be exploited to its true value.
The two former presidents find out that opening up brings in tourists who in turn bring foreign currency to the country, and on the other hand, will praise Burundi. According to them, tourism is a major asset which contributes to the achievement of the vision.
