KAYANZA, January (ABP) – Some 4309 cases of school dropouts have been recorded in the school province of Kayanza since the first term of the current school year.
According to the director of education in the province, Juvénal Mbonihankuye, the causes are multifaceted and require the involvement of everyone to reverse the trend, he said, during an interview he gave to a check by ABP on Friday, January 17th.
Juvénal Mbonihankuye disclosed that among those cases of school dropouts, 1993 are girls and 2316 boys. The communes that come first are respectively Kabarore, Matongo, Muruta and Gatara. Regarding the main causes, they mention poverty in some families, ignorance of the importance of school among some students and demotivation among others who see their elders in a jobless situation while they are graduates or certified.
To significantly reduce the number of school dropouts, the school authority in Kayanza province proposes to the grassroots administrative officials to ensure that no child drops out of school and to use their power to punish parents who keep their children at home.
He urges parents to make their children love school and not to accept that they drop out of school. All educational partners are called upon to be actively involved, especially since children who drop out of school constitute a time bomb. Recall that 16,169 cases of school dropouts were recorded in the province during the 2023/2024 school year, while they were 16,840 during the 2022/2023 school year.
