CANKUZO, February 12th (ABP) – The natives of the Cankuzo province, gathered alongside the administrative officials proceeded, on Saturday February 8, 2025, to the presentation of the achievements made in the last five years and exchanged wishes for the year 2025, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.
Parliamentarians and other executives native to the province, including the Minister of Trade, Transport, Industry and Tourism, Mrs. Chantal Nijimbere, were present at the meeting.
The governor of the province, Mr. Boniface Banyiyezako, indicated, in his speech for the occasion, that security is good thanks to the good collaboration between the different services and the meetings of Ujirani Mwema held with the Tanzanian authorities.
In the agricultural sector, the governor spoke of the improvement in production, specifying that the surplus of the harvest collected by the National Agency for the Management of Food Security Stocks “ANAGESSA” increased from 2,000 to 6,000 tonnes of corn grains. He encouraged state officials and other entrepreneurs who have engaged in the promotion of this sector, particularly by growing export crops, such as avocado trees, coffee trees, to name but a few.
Concerning infrastructure, he highlighted the poor state of the roads linking the provincial headquarters to the communes, which results in the increase in food prices and transport costs. He also revealed that, in the Gisagara commune, the same problem hinders the transport of FOMI fertilizers from the Cankuzo stock.
In the tourism sector, Governor Banyiyezako praised the involvement of entrepreneurs in the construction of hotels but called for the development of other tourist sites, including the Mishiha thermal waters.
Concerning the building that will house the Buhumuza provincial office, the governor indicated that preliminary studies for the construction of a five-storey building are underway.
Participants commended the progress made in development. Minister Nijimbere underscored that the intervention of entrepreneurs in the development of the various sectors is essential. She also called for the establishment of a master plan for the provincial vision with which all stakeholders must comply. Nijimbere specified that infrastructure and other preparations must meet the standards of the national vision “Burundi, emerging country by 2040 and developed in 2060”. In this context, the minister called on provincial officials to regularly monitor and evaluate the projects implemented in the province, adding that all achievements must meet the needs of the population.
It is worth noting that the achievements of the province in the last five years have been assessed at 80%, according to the governor.
