CANKUZO, June 12 (ABP) – As the paving work on the avenues of Cankuzo administrative center has been suspended once more, the residents of this province wonder when it will be finally completed.

Despair is evident among the residents of the Cankuzo provincial headquarters, after realizing that the project to pave the city’s avenues has once again been suspended.

Indeed, the current state of these avenues poses a danger to the population, as the residents complain that the cobblestones already placed on the avenues as part of this project, which has been ongoing for over a year, and the gutters that have been marked but remain unfinished, could cause accidents at any moment.

Moreover, these uncompleted gutters in front of households hinder daily life, as it is no longer possible for vehicles to exit the enclosures. Many of these households rely on their vehicles for implementing their development projects, a situation that the population deeply regrets.

Similarly, restaurant owners and other merchants lament the difficulty their clients face when trying to cross the gutters.

The elected representative of Cankuzo, Mr. Salvator Bigirimana, states that the execution of the works is progressing very slowly, according to observations on the ground. Mr. Bigirimana urges the relevant authorities to resume the project and aim to complete it as soon as possible.

For his part, the Director General of the Burundi Road Agency (ARB), Mr. Constantin Bigirimana, explained that the cement shortage was one of the main challenges, but that this issue has now been resolved. The cement is currently at the port, arriving from Zambia, he noted.

Mr. Bigirimana promised that all work on the project would be expedited to ensure its completion by the end of September of this year.

Note that 2 kilometers of avenues are aimed to be paved in this city, according to the Director General of the ARB.
