CIBITOKE, June 16 (ABP) – Nearly 1,000 displaced households from the Gateri site in Buganda commune, Cibitoke province, were assisted on Monday, June 9, 2025, by a producer and native of Mugimbu village, Murwi commune, named Dr. Jackson Nahayo.
In total, this food assistance consisted of five tons of maize flour, five tons of beans, and five tons of oranges, according to a source on site. Each household received 5 kilograms of maize flour, 5 kilograms of beans, and 20 oranges. The beneficiaries of this support, who were displaced by the floods in Gatumba, Mutimbuzi commune, Bujumbura province, welcomed the food aid, saying it came at the right time when they needed it most.
They appealed for other benefactors to come to their aid as well, emphasizing that they have no arable land or other sources of income to feed their children. As for Dr. Jackson Nahayo, this assistance is part of his own production, and he wanted to share with these vulnerable people who lack basic food supplies. He declared that he made this humanitarian gesture to support Burundians displaced by climate hazards.
Since the site is located on a treeless hill, the producer urged every occupant of the Gateri site to create a kitchen garden and plant a tree on their plot to improve well-being and the climate, and also to have fruit or vegetables to eat. He promised avocado seedlings to those who want them to transform the site’s appearance. Dr. Nahayo, who is also the head of “Ubuntu Clinic” in Buganda commune, plans to assist some displaced people at the Gateri site who need healthcare.
It should be noted that the distribution of that food aid was carried out by the Nahayo family, supported by friends from abroad visiting Burundi.
