CIBITOKE, June 4 (ABP) – The minister of Communication, Information Technologies, and Media Léocadie Ndacayisaba made a working visit on Monday, June 2 to the headquarters of Cibitoke province to inaugurate the multipurpose community telecentre of Cibitoke.
The ministry of communication, information technologies, and media aims to achieve universal access to ICT to accelerate economic growth and become a center of excellence and a regional reference hub in the ICT sector, a check on site by ABP revealed.
In her speech, the minister in charge of information technologies stated that the multipurpose community telecentre offers great value to the community, including access to internet-connected IT services, research, and digital services tailored to the needs of the beneficiaries, particularly the youth.
The head of the ministry in charge of ICT took the opportunity to thank the partners, including UNDP and BBS, who supported the Ministry in establishing this community tele-center. She noted that this is the fourth multipurpose community tele-center, following those in Nyanza-Lac, the School of Excellence in Makamba, and in Muyinga, for a cost of nearly 150,000 dollars.
She highlighted the high usage rates of these community tele-centers and stated that her Ministry aims to establish more in various provinces and communes. Minister Ndacayisaba emphasized that multipurpose community telecentres facilitate rapid integration and promote social and economic development. She pointed out that they form a foundation for sustainable development, contributing to the 2040-2060 vision.
She urged the managers to maintain this equipment properly to ensure its durability and continued access to IT, audiovisual, and internet services.
As for the governor of Cibitoke province, Carême Bizoza, he welcomed the ministry’s support to one of his province’s communes and also advocated for the establishment of similar centers in the remaining communes to provide access to digital services that meet the needs of many young people in his province.
