BEIJING, March 5th (AMSP/CGTN) – – China laid out its major policy priorities for 2025 at the annual session of its top national legislature on Wednesday, including how it plans to spur consumption and achieve technological breakthroughs. The 14th National People’s Congress opened its third session this morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Premier Li Qiang delivered a government work report. CGTN’s reporter Zhu Zhu explains:

“In the 2025 Government Work Report, China has set key economic targets, including around 5% GDP growth, an urban surveyed unemployment rate of approximately 5.5%, over 12 million new urban jobs, and a 2% increase in consumer prices. These targets take into account both domestic and international conditions, reflecting a strategy of steady progress.

The government has emphasized that the 5% growth target is essential for stabilizing employment, mitigating risks, and improving livelihoods. Meanwhile, the 2% inflation target is designed to keep prices within a reasonable range by leveraging various policies and reforms to improve supply-demand dynamics.

Additionally, the government aims to synchronize income growth with economic expansion, highlighting its focus on sustainability and social fairness. The commitment to reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by about 3% underscores China’s drive toward a green, low-carbon economy.

Overall, China’s 2025 economic targets reflect a strategy of steady progress while tackling challenges head-on. Amid global economic uncertainties, China’s commitment to high-quality development will require precise policy implementation and collective efforts to ensure high-quality economic growth.
