BUJUMBURA, June 16 (ABP) – The “IHURIRO” consortium, composed of 20 Burundian civil society organizations, held a press conference on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Bujumbura to release its observation report on the legislative and communal elections held on June 5, 2025.

The chairman of the “IHURIRO” consortium, Mr. Gérard Hakizimana, stated in his speech that in five provinces of the country, more than 200 electoral observers were deployed at polling stations from the start of the double election through to the vote count. He congratulated the population for demonstrating political maturity by participating in the electoral process. In this regard, the consortium witnessed the serenity, calm, and peace that characterized the electoral process.

Through the statement read by Mr. François-Xavier Ndaruzaniye, a member of the consortium, “IHURIRO” also congratulated all electoral stakeholders, including political parties, party coalitions, and independents, for taking part in the electoral race. The consortium expressed its deep gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and all its subdivisions (CEPI and CECI) for demonstrating professionalism in organizing free, peaceful, inclusive, and transparent elections, which, as Ndaruzaniye specified, took place in complete security.

The consortium also congratulated the CNDD-FDD party for winning the elections, which, it said, reflects the trust the Burundian people place in that party.

Consequently, the “IHURIRO” consortium called on the winning party to continue its work to develop the country in all sectors of national life. Finally, the Burundian civil society consortium urged political figures to accept the election results and called on all Burundians, regardless of their political, religious, or cultural affiliations, to embrace the outcome of the elections, to continue their daily development activities, and not to pay attention to defamatory remarks spread by certain disgruntled individuals seeking to cast doubt on the recently concluded elections.
